Given recent global events, UptimeRobot is experiencing an increased number of downtime notifications.

We are currently sending out five times more notifications than usual due to a widespread system outage impacting several critical services worldwide

Here’s a brief overview of the situation and how it affects our monitoring services.

What’s happening?

According to some media, we’re facing the largest outage in history

A major system outage has swept across multiple continents, significantly affecting various sectors, including international airlines, banks, and healthcare facilities.

The disruption is traced back to a software update from Crowdstrike, impacting Microsoft Windows systems. This issue has primarily affected Falcon, a service designed to protect cloud-stored files.

Despite Microsoft’s announcement that the “underlying cause” has been resolved, residual impacts are still being felt across several services. Some services have been restored, while others continue to face significant disruptions.

Sectors affected

Healthcare: Medical providers, including the UK’s National Health Service and one of Europe’s largest health facilities in Germany, are grappling with IT delays and operational restrictions.

Financial Institutions: Banks in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK are experiencing disruptions, affecting their operations and customer services.

Media Outlets: Major broadcasting services like ABC News and Sky News are among the affected, leading to delays in news dissemination.

Airlines: Travelers are facing significant delays and cancellations. As of early Friday morning, approximately 1,390 flights had been canceled globally, with numbers expected to rise.

The White House has acknowledged the incident and is investigating the disruptions. Similarly, the UK government has convened an emergency meeting to address the situation.
